Dan is a charismatic leader with an energetic ability to focus and lead multiple teams simultaneously to achieve desired objectives. He has a proven track record of driving unprecedented growth for both private and public logistics and supply chain organizations.
He is known as a seasoned, driven executive with a talent for creating and developing innovative strategies and diverse, high caliber teams to optimize performance, boost gross margin and dramatically increase EBITDA in challenging fast-paced environments. Dan’s early career starting in the 1990’s was with Roadway (RPS) which later became FedEx Ground in 2000. After a series of escalating positions of responsibility and numerous operational awards, his last position was the Senior Director of Chicago, which was a 2002-2003 consolidation of 5 terminals into one of the first US large automated metropolitan facilities. This 100MM in revenue, 1000+ team member, automated model would be used in FedEx Ground and later Amazon Logistics hundreds of times over and is actively in use today.
Dan grew up in an entrepreneurial family and in 2004 he purchased Best Messenger – a small, established courier company in Chicago. Over the next 14 years Dan was instrumental in leading the organization through a transformation. Starting as a 2MM company at acquisition, Best became one of the leading logistics service providers in the Midwest. Over the next decade, through team building, organic sales growth, M&A and subsidiary startups, Best Transportation Services grew 15X revenue with a 4+MM EBITDA by 2016. In 2017 Best was acquired by private equity, providing its shareholders a 4500% return on initial investment.
In 2018-2020, Dan spent some time at Sysco, Inc. operationally leading a 2B/ 1500+ employee market. He was charged with driving key metrics, expense and revenue management and strategic execution of corporate initiatives, including extensive union contract negotiations and implementation of fresh safety and retention procedures. In 2019 his facilities achieved the lowest employee turnover ratio in 25 years.
In late 2020, Dan was approached by a tenured associate of his to participate and join the Urban Shipper Technology team. With his extensive entrepreneurial spirit and background in logistics, specifically within the vertical of final mile where he sees incredible opportunity, he joined Urban Shipper on December 1, 2020, and is currently the Chief Operating Officer.
